Many people see Bangkok as a crazy, chaotic city full of skyscrapers, street food stalls and insane traffic. While this is basically true, many don’t realize that there are a number of awesome green space and beautiful Bangkok parks, Thailand. In this guide, we’d like to introduce you to 11 of the best parks in Bangkok, Thailand.
There are 11 major parks and maybe another 20 smaller parks that I’m aware of in Bangkok.
In many of these parks, you’ll find a huge variety of activities and facilities that include fitness equipment, running tracks, swimming pools, tennis courts, football pitches and much more (some good activities besides just shopping in Bangkok!).

Many parks also have free aerobic sessions every morning and every evening, with hundreds of people exercising to the music. Some parks have giant monitor lizards roaming around. I recently visited all eleven of the major public parks in Bangkok and here is what I found.
Lumphini Park | Best Parks in Bangkok
The Lumphini Park is Bangkok’s most popular and most well-known park. It’s situated right in the middle of the city and has plenty to offer. There’s so much more that can be said about this park, so check out my full guide to Bangkok’s Lumphini Park.
In the meantime, here are the most important things you need to know about Lumphini Park in Bangkok:
- Opening Hours: 04:30-21:00 every day
- Location: Silom – park is bounded by Rama IV Road, Ratchadamri Road, Sarasin Alley and Wireless Road.
- Nearest BTS: Sala Daeng – just follow the signs Silom MRT, then use the MRT subway to get to exit 1.
- Nearest MRT: Silom – take exit 1 and you come out right next to the park entrance.
Benjakitti Park | Best Parks in Bangkok
There is an awesome view of the Bangkok skyline from the Benjakitti Park. The image above is looking back towards the skyscrapers of Asoke, a major business district.
The park has a massive lake at the center and a running and cycling track around the park’s circumference. Other features of the park include an amphitheater, skateboarding area, meditation zone, and exercise stations.
It’s a peaceful park, albeit a little hot in the summer. Like all Bangkok parks, it gets most busy early morning and evenings.
- Opening Hours: 05:00-21:00 every day
- Location: Next to Queen Sirikit National Convention Center
- Nearest BTS: Asok – take exit 4, turn right into Ratchadaphisek Road and keep walking for around 5 minutes. You’ll see the park on your right.
- Nearest MRT: Queen Sirikit National Convention Center – walk for around 5 minutes towards Asok. You’ll see the park on your left.
Benjasiri Park | Best Park in Bangkok
Banjasiri Park was built in 1992 to celebrate Queen Sirikit’s birthday, and is sometimes called “Queen’s Park” in her honor.
There is a water fountain at the front of the park where they have water dance shows three times a day, at 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00. The park has a small lake in the center and also a small swimming pool and basketball court.
There are a few Thai sculptures scattered around the park, which makes it a little different from other parks in Bangkok. Being so centrally located means that this is also another fairly popular park.

- Location: Sukhumvit Road, next to Emporium Shopping Mall
- Nearest BTS: Phrom Phong – take exit 6 and you’ll end up right in front of the main entrance
Chatuchak Park | Parks in Bangkok
The Chatuchak Park is, as you might guess, right next door to the world famous Chatuchak Weekend Market. This park is popular with market visitors and also residents who live in the north of Bangkok.
The Chatuchak Park has a large central lake with rowing boats available for hire. It has a picturesque bridge that crosses the lake, and is home to many different kinds of fish. There is also a popular Thai Literature and Herb Garden in the park.
Come early and spend some time here before heading to the Chatuchak Weekend Market.

- Location: Next to Chatuchak Weekend Market
- Nearest BTS: Mo Chit – take exit 1 and the park will be on your right
- Nearest MRT: Chatuchak Park – exit 1 and exit 2 will both take you to the park
King Rama IX Park | Parks in Bangkok
The King Rama IX Park was constructed for HM the King’s 60th birthday in 1987. The main park is split into different zones, such as a portion for Ratchapreuk trees, a botanical area with many indoor plants, the Rommanee Garden and a water park.

- Opening Hours: 05:00-19:00 every day
- Location: Sukhumvit Soi 103
- Nearest BTS: Udom Suk – you’ll need to take a taxi from there (about 70 baht)
Romaneenart Park | Bangkok, Thailand
Romaneenart Park is right next door to the very interesting Corrections Museum in Bangkok and close to the Giant Swing and Wat Suthat.
This park is where Bangokok’s central prison used to be, but most of if was demolished during the building of the park. It’s only a short walk from Chinatown, so you could combine this with a visit there.
- Opening Hours: 05:00-21:00 every day
- Location: Maha Chai Road
- Nearest MRT: Hua Lamphong – it’s about a 30-minute walk or you can take a taxi
- Nearest Pier: Memorial Bridge – walk along Chakphet Road which then turns into Maha Chai Road
Rot Fai Park (Railway Park) | Bangkok
The Rot Fai Park in Bangkok used to be a golf course but has now been turned into a large park. The park gets pretty busy with families at weekends. Highlights of the park include the Butterfly Garden and the Train Museum. This is a great place to take your kids.
- Opening Hours: 04:30-21:00 every day
- Location: Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road, near Chatuchak Weekend Market
- Nearest BTS: Mo Chit – take exit 1, turn into Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road and keep walking for about 15 minutes. It’s just passed Queen Sirikit Park.
- Nearest MRT: Chatuchak Park – take exit 1 and exit 2, turn into Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road and keep walking for about 15 minutes. It’s just passed Queen Sirikit Park.
Queen Sirikit Park | Parks in Bangkok
The Queen Sirikit Park was constructed for the 60th birthday of HM the Queen. It’s one of a trio of parks in this area, the other two being Chatuchak Park and Rot Fai Park.
One of the main attractions of this park is where trees from Thailand’s 76 provinces are planted to form the shape of Thailand. The park has a botanical garden, pond and beautiful gardens.
- Opening Hours: 05:30-18:00 every day
- Location: Next to Chatuchak Weekend Market
- Nearest BTS: Mo Chit – take exit 1, turn into Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road and keep walking for about 10 minutes. You’ll see the park on your left.
- Nearest MRT: Chatuchak Park – take exit 1 and exit 2, turn into Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road and keep walking for about 10 minutes. You’ll see the park on your left.
Sanam Luang Park | Best in Bangkok
The Sanam Luang Park is located on Rattanakosin Island and is quite close to Khao San Road, the highly popular backpacker area.
The park has existed for over 230 years from when Bangkok was first founded. Most visitors to Bangkok will be familiar with this area, because it’s where you’ll find some of the major attractions. These include the Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, National Gallery and others.
People always gather at Sanam Luang Park on 5 December to celebrate the King’s birthday.
- Opening Hours: 05:00-21:00 every day
- Location: Near the Grand Palace
- Nearest Pier: Maharaj or Chang Pier
Santichai Prakarn Park | Bangkok
The Santichai Prakarn Park is a small park and the nearest one to the popular Khao San Road backpacker district. The park is popular with both tourists and locals, especially on weekends.
There are lots of interesting restaurants and cafes in this area, so it’s a good place to spend some leisure time if you have it.
- Opening Hours: 05:00-22:00 every day
- Location: Near Kaho San Road
- Nearest Pier: Phra Athit – leave the pier and turn left onto Phra Athit Road. The park will be a few minutes’ walk away on your left.
Santiphap Park (Peace Park) | Bangkok
I recently visited the Santiphap Park in the afternoon and it was quite busy with mostly local people, which is not usually the case with other parks in Bangkok in the afternoon.
This park is much smaller than most other parks in Bangkok but has more of a community feel to it. There is an area that has stacks of magazines that people have left and you’ll see many people sitting and reading there. It sometimes has jazz music playing and is popular with families.
It’s a nice green space in the busy Victory Monument area.

- Location: Thanon Din Daeng
- Nearest BTS: Victory Monument – take exit 4, turn right into Thanon Din Daeng and keep walking for around 5 minutes. You’ll see the park on your right.
Final Thoughts | Best Parks in Bangkok, Thailand
While there are plenty of tourist destinations that require a fee to enter, the beauty of a public park is that it’s free. Sometimes I find that people watching at a park can be just as enjoyable and interesting!
