It might sound very surprising to some, but there is indeed a David Beckham Temple in Bangkok. The temple is officially called Wat Pariwat (Pariwat Temple), and it has an image of David Beckham decorating the base of a Buddha shrine, hence the nickname David Beckham Temple. The head monk at the temple is a Manchester United supporter, so he thought it would be a great idea to have the image included on the base of the shrine. I’m not sure what he thinks now that David Beckham no longer plays for Manchester United. This is definitely one of the weird and quirky temples we have been to. The part of the temple that houses the David Beckham image is only open a few times a year on Buddha days, but if you ask around someone will get the key and let you in to have a look.

If you look closely at the image above you’ll see that Beckham is wearing a Man U shirt with a Sharp logo.
The inside of this building has some stunning images high up on the walls and ceiling, with the Buddha shrine at the far end.
Once the doors have been opened, you’ll be greeted by the sight shown above. There are images all around the base, with the David Beckham image being on the right hand side right next to the back wall.
At the opposite side of the shrine there are images of two former Thai prime ministers. Apparently this was quite controversial around the time it was added.
How To Get To David Beckham Temple (Wat Pariwat)
The temple is quite easy to get to because the BRT bus has a stop right outside the temple. The BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) connects to the BTS (skytrain) at Chong Nonsi and Talat Phlu stations. Get off the BTS at one of those stops and get on the BRT bus – it only costs 5 baht ($0.15) per journey. Get off at Wat Pariwat station and you’ll see the entrance to the temple directly opposite the station.
The above image shows the temple entrance from Wat Pariwat BRT station. Just walk in all the way to the back and you’ll see the following building to your right.
You’ll need to head around to the right of the building and ask if someone can get the key to let you in. Most people that work here will know about the David Beckham image.
While you’re there you should also ask if you can see the new Wat Pariwat Temple that’s currently under construction. It was started around 7 years ago and is estimated to take 20 years to complete. What’s there so far is pretty awesome and well worth seeing. It’s not often you get to see a temple like this during the construction phase.
