We got the equivalent of over $500 worth of free hotel stays while we traveled around SE Asia recently. That’s enough to stay at a nice hotel in Chiang Mai for a couple of months.
Above is our room at Homefeel CS Hotel in Phnom Penh, one of the places where we got a few free nights. It’s very easy to get free stays if you plan ahead a little. Here are the two ways that helped us.
Hotel Confidential Reviews
The main part of our $500 came from doing short video reviews for hotelconfidential.com. We got paid $25 for each review, which consisted of shooting four short videos – 30-90 seconds long. The videos need to be of the room you stayed at, the lobby, the surroundings, and one other – such as fitness center, restaurant, pool, etc. Once the videos are done it’s just a case of uploading them with a short written review.
We did 17 reviews in total, making us a total of $425. If we’d changed hotels more often we could have made even more.
This offer was still available at the time this post was written, but I assume that it will end at some point.
Agoda
The other way we got free stays was by booking nearly all our hotels via Agoda.com, which meant collecting points that we could exchange for hotel stays. Agoda give the equivalent of 3-7% of the booking cost in points. We made a total of over $100.
If you’re currently traveling and staying at hotels, then it’s worth using both the above options to save yourself some money. The money adds up quite quickly over time. Instead of getting free stays you could upgrade to a better room, which is what we did a few times.
