Silom is a great area for cafes, and these are some of my favorites. They’re are located toward the Charoenkrung Road end of Silom Road. All have free wifi unless stated otherwise. The prices at these cafes are very reasonable, and much cheaper than at Starbucks and other chains.
Bistro 95
This cafe has a couple of stools outside and some fake grass, and this is where I like to sit, watching the world go by. They have aircon inside if you prefer. As well as coffee, tea and cakes, they also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bevanda Cafe
This is only a small cafe with three tables inside, but what I love about it is the outside seating. Even though it’s close to a main road, it’s a quite peaceful area. We used to live on the same street as this cafe, so were hanging out there very often.

Koffee Link (Closed)
I often come here for coffee after eating at my favorite veggie place just across the road on Soi Si Wiang. This cafe has some nice seating outside, where you can sit and watch the interesting streets outside. It sells a rang of travel books inside, and also various crafts.
Update Nov 2014: We think this has closed for good. Some locals said it was shut temporarily but others said shut for good. It’s been closed for a couple of months, so I don’t see much hope for it re-opening. But you never know.

Krung Teh
This is a quirky little cafe that only opened three weeks ago. It’s on Silom Soi 19, just down the road from Starbucks and opposite the side entrance to the Silom Galleria. The Thai name for Bangkok is Krung Thep, and the name of the cafe, Krung Teh, is a play on words around this. Teh means cool, so it’s name is kind of Bangkok Cool. At the moment they have a daily competition whereby you guess the last two closing digits of the Thailand Stock Exchange Index, with the winner getting a t-shirt. They are also giving away small notepads with each drink. These include 10 baht off your next drink.

Neilson Hays Cafe
Unlike the other cafes above, this one is quiet expensive, with an Americano costing 85 baht, compared to 35-50 baht at the others. The cafe is right next to Neilson Hays Library, and also doubles up as a gallery. It’s a nice setting, so worth a visit.

Zana’s Bean Coffee
I found this cafe yesterday, and it’s another that’s on the more expensive side. I like the colorful design and relaxing seating though. It’s located on the ground floor of the BUI building at the junction of Surawong Road and Soi Anuman Rajdhon.

Panlee Bakery
Panlee Bakery is a family run business that’s been run from the same shop on Charoenkrung Road since 1950. As well as a bakery that has a huge assortment of baked goods, it also has a small cafe that has seating for around 10-12 people. The coffee here is very good and very reasonably priced. I pop in here regularly. It’s one of the few cafes on this list that’s open on a Sunday. It’s about a 5-minute walk from Saphan Taksin BTS – just head along Charoenkrung Road towards State Tower and the bakery will be on your right just before you get to the junction with Silom Road.

Knob Cafe
This is a newly opened cafe in the Baan Silom Complex that’s near Jewelry Trade Center. It’s in the same square as Starbucks and on ground floor of Baan Silom Heritage Hotel. It’s has a really cool design and has knobs (door knobs, cupboard knobs) decorating the shop, hence the name. Great cafe and relaxing atmosphere.
