I wrote a previous post about vegetarian restaurants in Bangkok, but didn’t included the Indian restaurants, as I thought they deserved a separate post. So here it is. Silom is a great place to head to if you enjoy Indian vegetarian food, with most of the restaurants being located on two streets – Pan Road and Soi Puttha Osot.
Bombay Palace
This is our personal favorite and we eat here often when we’re in Bangkok. It’s a very simple shophouse style place, but the food is excellent. Good Indian vegetarian food is one of the things I miss about the UK, so it’s good that this area of Bangkok has such a good choice of vegetarian Indian restaurants.
The staff here speak English and the menu is in English, so choosing what you want is easy. It’s also very reasonably priced, with most main dishes costing 50 baht ($1.70). My favorites are the Aloo Gobi and Tarka Dal.
It can be a little hard t find the first time, but if walking from Silom Road turn into Mahaset Road (opposite Holiday Inn) and keep walking for around 500 meters. You’ll pass Surawong Road and then see Soi Puttha Osot on your right. It’s just a small lane. Turn into it and you’ll see Bombay Palace on your right after about 100 meters.

Chennai Kitchen
This is a south Indian vegetarian restaurant, so if you’re used to eating Indian food in the UK you most likely won’t know what most of the items on the menu are. But the owners speak English and will explain what all the dishes area. Chennai Kitchen has recently moved from near the Hindu Temple to larger premises further up the street. Walk up Pan Road from Silom Road and you’ll see the restaurant about halfway along the road on your left.
We ate at the old location a few times and the food is quite good. You can expect to pay around 150 baht ($5) for a meal here. The Vegetarian Thali is good, and they can substitute some items if you want a vegan meal.

Suananda Kitchen
We ate here again today (August 2015) and the menu seems to have been expanded a little. There was a choice of four set meals and also an a la carte menu. The above is from the set menu. Included was rice, a green vegetable, a cauliflower dish, daal, poppadom and roti. Cost was 180 baht ($5).
Suananda Kitchen is just at the end of the small lane shown above. The lane is next door but one to Chennai Kitchen mention above. This restaurant has a few set meals, with the menu changing daily. The restaurant is in a nice, relaxing setting and is fairly newly renovated.

Mashoor Vegetarian
I’ve only eaten here once and that was a few years ago. It’s ok, but I prefer the other restaurants in this area. I’ve also read a few comments online that it shares a kitchen with the non-vegetarian restaurant next door and that they have the same menu. That can put off some vegetarians.
Update (Nov 2014): We’ve eaten here a couple of times recently and the food is good. You’ll probably have to st in Ananpurna, which is the next door restaurant that serves meat. They are connected.

Diamond Restaurant
This restaurant is on the main Silom Road opposite Narai Hotel. The restaurant is on the ground floor of Diamond Residence Hotel, so seems to be open early until late. I’ve eaten here twice but that was a few years ago. Like Mashoor, the food is fine, but I prefer other places. This place is more like a Western restaurant and would suite many tourists better though. The staff thee are friendly and helpful as well. If

Soi Pussha Osot Vegetarian Indian Restaurants
I mentioned Bombay Palace above, which is our favorite Indian restaurant on this street and also in Silom, but there are a few more Indian veggie places on this street. There is another restaurant, that we haven’t tried, directly opposite Bombay Palace, and a little further on there is a place called Dehli Sweets that sells Indian sweet desserts.
If walking along Mahaset Road from Silom Road, you’ll need to turn right into Soi Pussha Osot to get to Bombay Place, but if you turn left you’ll find another 3 or 4 Indian veggie restaurants. I’ve eaten at a couple of them, but that was a few years ago and I don’t remember their names. But it’s just a short street and they are easy to find. Note that Google Maps has this section of street marked as Charoen Krung 45, so it might have two names. If you walk all the way along it you’ll come to Charoen Krung Road, so it’s also possible to access this street from that direction.
