Tonight is the culmination of the Navaratri (Navratri) Hindu Festival, and much of the Silom area has already been taken over by people preparing for this evening. The festival is centered around Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, with stalls and shrines along the length of the route along Silom Road, Surasak Road, Sathorn Road and Narathiwas Road. Here are some images that I took earlier today. For the images from the festival, see Navaratri Hindu Festival Bangkok. Click here to book a hotel in Silom near the Navaratri Festival.
Some of the shrines are already looking amazing. Hundreds of people are sitting at the side of the road making these by hand. The snakes below were just a bunch of banana leaves a few hours ago.
The center of all the activity is Sri Maha Mariamman Tempel at the junction of Silom Road and Pan Road.
These roads will be closed this evening, as thousands of people will attend this Hindu Festival.
